WE ARE JUST GIRLS!

// Me & my gal were always saying
A SERIE BY MARTA ARNAUDO

“We are just girls!
That’s what my Venice roommate and I were always saying, shrugging.
Every time we couldn’t make the shopping count out, when we spent an eternity to dressing up to go out or even when we were stuck on the couch watching too-much-predictable romantic movies for decrepit people (us).
When we felt and reacted deeply just like girls, and that’s not a bad thing.
It’s been a year since I graduated and, considering that I haven’t had any definite plans since then,
I’ve been keeping myself busy so as to avoid falling into the dark hole behind me and escaping my passive-aggressive attitudes.
In this particular time of my life, I remember transforming myself into a crazy, jealous and creepy girl; What I basically did, was inventing an unreal problem in which I could fill in all my insecurities and fears.
By doing so, I was able to run away from the reality and kept postponing the omnipresent dilemma:
What do I want to do with my life? How do I learn what I want and channel it into decision-making?
So, we can call this the first step: identify the real problem.
Second step: feeling sorry for yourself.
I strongly believe that feeling sorry for ourselves in any critical moments of life, it’s a fundamental phase of awareness and step up towards the development of our inner, social and creative process.
Careful! Let’s not blow this out of proportion: feeling sorry for yourself doesn’t mean being a social scourge for you’re friends and family *blink-blink*.
Third and last step: move on.
I know, it sounds way too obvious and if I keep repeating it, I’ll probably be sick. But let’s be honest; questioning yourself it’s never easy or pleasant, but that’s the price you got to pay unless you want to end up as a psychotic or schizophrenic.
So that’s a sort of adulthood lesson by me, just a girl.
Fears cloud your visions. You will always find an excuse not to face your insecurities and overthinking just doesn’t help at all.
Most of your insecurities will go away moving on.”
